Plot Summary:

It is not that audiences are always looking for action and super hero films. The success of Black Swan confirms the fact that drama films are equally appealing, if well made. The movie has been directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz. The film stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent cassel, all of whom have given very creditable performances.

Nina (Portman) is a ballet dancer who eats drinks and sleeps dance. Her life revolves around dance only as she works in a ballet company in New York. Nina lives with her mother Erica (Hershey) who is a former ballerina and exercises great control over the life of Nina. In fact she is obsessive about Nina and interferes in her personal life also. Nina is seen by Thomas Leroy (Cassel) who is a ballet director and is looking for a ballerina for his opening production Swan Lake, as he is not happy with the performance of Beth McIntyre (Ryder). He also likes the talent of a new dancer on the block, Lily (Kuins), and it becomes a competition between the two ballet dancers for the role of ballerina in Swan Lake. The play requires the lead dancer to perform both the roles of a white swan as well as a black swan. White swan is innocent and graceful, while the black swan is cunning and sensual. While Nina fits like a T to the role of white swan, it is Lily who is ideal for the role of black swan. Finally it is Nina who is chosen to play both the roles.

When the play starts and Nina performs to perfection, Thomas is overjoyed. In the last act, white swan goes atop a huge structure to commit suicide. Nina jumps on to foam and people are clapping when Lily notices blood on Nina’s costume. Thomas is pained and asks Nina why did she do it. Nina just utters “I was perfect” and dies while the crowd is roaring in applause.
