Plot Summary:

Burlesque is a musical film that is directed and written by Steve Antin. It is a story about a small town girl who wishes to make it big and find her place in a burlesque club. The neo burlesque club she finds herself in is located in Los Angeles and is run by a former dancer. The movie stars Cher, Alan Cumming and debutant Cristina Aguilera.

The story is about the Burlesque lounge that was once at its peak but lost its charm with time. Now its best days are behind it. Cher plays the character of Tess, a former dancer, who now runs this place. She is the owner of the burlesque lounge and struggling desperately to keep it alive. The lounge is facing severe financial challenges along with artistic ones as well. Not only that but the Lounge’s group is about to scatter too. The reason being that some are facing personal problems while on the other hand, the Burlesque Lounge maybe be bought from Tess by a wealthy business tycoon. Good times had surely turned away from this place altogether when Ali, played by Cristina Aguilera, comes by. Cristina Aguilera plays the role of this small town girl hoping to make it big in Los Angeles. She leaves her home and her job in Iowa and comes to Los Angeles. Ali comes across the Burlesque Lounge, and starts working there as a waitress. From there on she moves onward with nothing to stop her. She starts to love the Lounge and the troupe pf the lounge making good friends with them. This gives her the opportunity to leave behind a hollow past.

Ali has the dream to go on stage herself and with the help of her new found friends she manages to do just that. Soon she becomes the main attraction of the lounge with her elaborate dance steps and spectacular voice. For Tess, this turns out to be an opportunity for her to regain her Burlesque Lounge and bring It back to the peak at which it once was. The movie also involves a romantic edge to it with Ali, finding love at the lounge.

The movie is fun to watch with its musical numbers that need a little tuning. The cast has done a splendid job with Christina Aguilera as well. This maybe her first movie but has acted out her role well. Though this movie gained criticism but is also being watched by many at the same time. It is a good movie to pass a weekend.
