Plot Summary:

Dante's Inferno Animated is a short animated film directed by Boris Acosta and written by Dante Alighieri and Dino Di Durante. The film stars Armand Mastroianni, Eric Roberts and Jenn Gotzon. The film is based upon The Divine Comedy, which is Dante’s journey through hell. It resembles a videogame that is based upon a 14th century poem. It describes the journey of Christian warrior Dante, who goes through 9 circles of hell chasing the soul of his love Beatrice. In every circle, Dante faces his own sins that he committed in his life as well as gruesome beasts he has to fight to survive. Finally he meets Satan who has decided to make his love Beatrice his own.

It is difficult to fathom the reason behind the making of the film, but I suppose it has been made to make grown up children of today aware of Dante’s teachings. There are a lot of images shown in this animated film which are very convincing indeed. These are over 50 illustrations that one can see in the coming comic book called Dante’s Inferno.

The movie depicts after life of Dante in a chronological order. All through his journey, Dante is guided by his friend and hero Virgil and the two pass through each of the 9 circles of hell until they get to the centre of the earth and finally emerging in another hemisphere into Purgatory. These illustrations are originally created by Dino Di Durante. The film is totally different from other cartoon films in the sense that it is animation and there is recital in the background rather than voices of characters in a cartoon film. You may find the film a little odd as there are no speaking characters and you hear narration of what you see. Three versions of the film have been made which are Italian, English and Spanish.
