Doctor Strangelove OR How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is a black comedy film released in 1964 that is satirical about nuclear bombs and their scare. A crazy American general, suspecting that Soviets have tried to poison the American populace by contaminating the water supplies, orders nuclear bombers to stop communist Soviets. As the President is shown in conversation with General Turgidson, everyone is worried about the consequences of a nuclear war. But with this chain of command intact, how could General Ripper launch such an attack? Ripper has clearly misused the system and only he knows how to recall the B-52 bombers. But nothing can be done now as Ripper has shut all communication so as to protect the attack launched by him. President Muffley invites Soviet Ambassador to the war room and also talks with Soviet Premier to discuss the situation. Americans are stunned to know that Soviets have a doomsday device ready for this situation and they will launch it if any of their targets are hit.

The president orders attack on General Ripper’s base which he has sealed off so as to achieve his mission. The bombers are midway when they get recall orders, but by then it is too late. One of the officers in command of General Ripper thinks he knows the code to recall the bombers, but Ripper does not allow him out of the base or communicate with the headquarters.

The movie can be said to be a parody as it conceives of possible consequences in the event of such a drastic situation. Doctor Strangelove clearly illustrates the horrors of war protocols and what can happen if they go wrong. To give the film a humorous look, Generals are shown as mad, Bomber pilots as cowboys and political leaders as fools.
