Plot Summary:

If you think that Fight Club is a movie all about boxing or full of gore and violence, you are wrong. The film has a deeper message to convey and talks about means and ways to release male aggression in a harmless manner. Directed by David Fincher and written by Chuck Palahniuk and Jim Uhls, the movie stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. The film was nominated for an Oscar and was a big box office hit. The movie is based upon the novel by the same name written by Chuck himself. While many say that Fight Club is irresponsible and an anti social movie, but the truth is that Fight Club reflects the conditions prevailing in our society. It is actually an indictment of our society that creates conditions for the type of violence shown in the film. The film is not a glorification of violence. Instead, it denounces violence in the end. Jack (Edward Norton), plays narrator in the movie who is an insomniac, and to find relief, he attends support groups where he finds victims of diseases who are suffering much more. During one such visit, Jack meets Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), who fakes herself to a victim in these support groups. Jack hates her for this. During one of his business trips, Jack meets Tyler Durden who is a soap salesman. In an accident, Jacls house catches fire and he is forced to live in Tyler’s ramshackle house. They develop deep friendship, but start a fistfight outside a parking lot being watched by scores or people. This is when they discover joys of pain. Fighting gives them the kick that is lacking in their lives. Other men like their fight and soon, Tyler and Jack make a Fight Club. The club becomes popular and soon, there are many more such clubs found all over the country.

Marla is a disturbed personality and overdoses on pills. Once, she is rescued by Tyler and they start on a sexual relationship. Tyler is in financial distress and to avoid a debt burden, makes a plan to bomb credit card company buildings where all records are kept. Jack comes to know of this and tries to stop him, but even the police don’t help. Jack confronts Tyler and the two reach top of a building where Jack kills Tyler.
