Plot Summary:

The Fighter is a movie about real people and their love, hatred and aspirations. The film is directed by David O Russell and written by Scott Silver and Paul Tamasy. The film has Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in the lead roles and both have given memorable performances. The movie scripts the meteoric rise of Irish boxer Micky Ward to the title clash in the light welterweight category. He is taken care of by his half brother Dicky, who is himself a boxer and has trained his brother. He is one hell of a character having rebounded in life threatened by drugs and crime.

Dicky is a class act, who uses his brother Micky as a sparring partner who also happens to be a very good boxer. Micky lives in the shadow of his brother and awaits his lucky break. Dicky gets first crack at the welterweight title but is humiliated by the reigning champion Sugar ray Leonard. This hurst his Irish pride and he takes a plunge into drugs and petty crimes. The reputation of the family goes down with the wrongdoings of Dicky. Micky takes it upon himself to do something for the family pride and soon rises in rankings. Dicky is released on parole and wows to guide his brother to the title he could not win. He finds solace in the fact that his own brother is achieving something he dreamt and puts all his energies in training him to make him a complete boxer. The meteoric rise of Micky is surprising for the boxing world and gives a lot of comfort to his family, especially to Dicky.

The film is a source of inspiration to many a budding boxers as it tells the story of an underrated boxer trying to salvage the reputation of his large family. The Fighter is an intense film with some really touching scenes between the two boxer brothers.
