Plot Summary:

Comedy films can be touching and so very moving. Well, at least this is what can be said about Groundhog Day, a comedy film about a weatherman, released in 1993. Directed by Harold Ramis and written by Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis himself, the movie stars Bill Murray, Andie McDowell and Chris Elliot. The film earned a BAFTA film award and was a hit at the box office. The story of the film revolves around a weatherman who finds himself doing the same thing over and over again as every new day in his life turns out to be the same. Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is a TV meteorologist who is bored with his life and his misery is complete when he is sent to report the coverage of annual Groundhog Day celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. This is the 4th year running that he has been asked to report the event, and Phil has to go there along with new producer Rita ( Andie McDowell ) and cameraman Larry ( Chris Elliot ). But as Phil cannot refuse to take up the assignment, he grudgingly accepts the orders and covers the event and submits his report. While he returns to Pittsburgh, there is a strong blizzard that shuts down all roads and Phil is forced to take shelter in the town along with his crew for one more day.

Phil wakes up next day to find that the day has not changed and it is still February 2. The day turns out exactly it did earlier, and no one else except Phil is aware of this development. Initially Phil is very excited and he tries to gain advantage of knowing what is going to happen. He also has no fears of anything happening in future as he has to relive the same day over and over again. He tries to take advantage of this amazing fact by getting some extra pleasures in life like making money and seducing women. But he fails miserably in his attempts to seduce Rita and other women.

Soon Phil becomes tired and even attempts suicide, only to find himself reliving the day again. He suddenly realizes that he can be a benefactor as he can help others knowing what is going to happen. He becomes a better man by helping others. He develops many talents and starts to understand others in a better way. Eventually the magic spell goes away and he finds his love.
