Plot Summary:
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is one of Terry Gilliam’s finest movies ever. It is the most visually stunning movie he has ever done, and it stars an ensemble cast of Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, and others in a serious adventure through time, space, life, death, the imagination, the real world, and the dream world. This movie is about a traveling freak show that gets visitors to go inside the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus to access their dream world. Doctor Parnassus has made a deal with the devil involving his daughter, and there is a bet placed between them that involves the outcomes of the people that go inside the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Whoever can get more souls out of the Imaginarium will be the victor and claim ownership of the daughter. This movie is emotional, and it follows a freak show in England, and shows how it can be hard for a traveling troupe to make a buck on the road, especially when they are showing people the deepest reaches of their imagination to gain their money. It’s a hard concept to wrap your head around. And the pun was intended there.
