Plot Summary:
The Invention of Lying stars Ricky Gervais at his best. He lives in a world where no one can lie, and he discovers he can lie. He then makes a fortune off of his lies because everyone believes he’s telling the truth, and he is like the revealer of everything the society was absent about before. Since they all believe him, he is able to spout miraculous, inventive, and incredible knowledge, and they all believe it is true. He uses this to his advantage and makes millions, becomes worldwide famous, and gets the girl of his dreams. This movie takes a totally unique approach to comedy by inventing a whole new world in which lying doesn’t exist. This sets the stage for so many perfect jokes that you’ll be laughing out loud at the sheer believability of an alternate fantasy world where lying doesn’t take place, and you can make money off of your lies because everyone believes they’re the truth. This movie deserves a very high rating because of its uniqueness compared to other comedies that are merely situational and not philosophical and spiritual like this movie is. Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner do a superb job of the know-it-all and oblivious girl all-in-one. This movie does a good job of living up to its premise.
