Plot Summary:

As the name of the movie goes, It's Kind of a Funny Story, is a comedy drama about the life of a 16 year old boy who is contemplating about suicide. Written and directed by both Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, this movie is hilarious to watch. Starring Keir Gilchrist in the main role of Craig Gilner, Zoë Kravitz as Nia (his girlfriend|) and Emma Roberts as Noelle, this comedy is an enjoyable feat.

Craig Gilner the 16 year old boy, thinking of jumping of the Brooklyn Bridge, gets help from Dr. Mahmoud (Aasif Mandavi). Craig realizes that something is not right with him if he thought of killing himself. Dr Mahmoud agrees to help him out and registers Craig for a week in the psychiatric ward of the hospital. All this is hidden from Craig's friends and especially Nia, whom he has a crush on but unfortunately is his best friend, Aaron's (Thomas Mann) girlfriend. He starts having doubts about his decision to come to the doctor and the psychiatric ward. Missing school would surely draw attention of his fellow class mates.

Craig is made to live amongst adult patients in the ward as there are very teenagers there. Here he meets Bobby (Zach Galifianakis) who guides Craig and takes him under his wing. The fear and unease he feels in the ward is somewhat cured by his befriending Bobby. He also meets with another teenager Noelle (Emma Roberts) who is admitted for self-mutilation. Soon they become friends as well and Craig starts to feel good about his being in the psychiatric ward. He forms close bonds with other patients on the floor as well. The story takes a turn Craig is caught in a fix between the two girls Nia and Noelle. There turns out to be confusions which make the audience laugh. The story brings out the love of painting and drawing in Craig, something that he had not thought of. The life spent in the ward for this teenager turns him around and makes him see life in a different perspective.

It's Kind of a Funny Story is fun to watch and the dialogues make one keep on laughing throughout the movie. Zach Galifianakis plays the best come character in the movie and leads it well. This movie is sure to watch over the weekend.
