Plot Summary:

The movie The Last Exorcism opens up with Reverend Marcus agreeing to be part of a documentary showing that exorcism is a fake procedure. He chooses randomly a letter from the pile he received and goes with producer Iris and cameraman Dave to a farmhouse owned by Louis Sweetzer. He believes his daughter is possessed by a devil and asks of Reverend Marcus to perform an exorcism.

He performs the fake procedure and Iris and Dave film it. Convinced that Nell, Sweetzer's daughter has mental issues instead of being possessed, Marcus takes her to the hospital. The doctor assures him that she is healthy.

Marcus finds a few disturbing pictures drawn by Nell showing a bloody cat, Iris killed with an axe and Dave decapitated. These are all events to come. Nell actually beats a cat to death with the camera found in Marcus's room.

The hospital leaves a message for Louis saying that Nell is pregnant. Marcus suspects Louis of incest, but he denies having touched it and blames the demon for it. He asks of Marcus to perform a last exorcism. In the barn, the Reverend tries to cure Nell, but actually find out that she was ashamed of her pregnancy and pretended to be possessed.

When Marcus goes to speak with the boy Nell has had intimate relations with, he denies the fact. As he and Iris and Dave return to the farmhouse they find various pentagrams and demonic symbols on the walls. In the forest they find a group of hooded people around a fire. Nell gives birth to an unusual creature which is thrown in the fire. As depicted in the pictures Nell draw, Marcus takes a cross and goes to save Nell. Iris is killed with an axe by the members of the cult and Dave is decapitated by Nell's brother.
