Plot Summary:
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a sequel to the original film and continues the story from where it was left in the end of the first film. Those who have not seen the first part may be hard pressed to understand the plot of the second part. This film is also directed by Peter Jackson and is based on the second volume of the epic novel written by J. R. R. Tolkein. However, the tough job has been handled by Jackson with aplomb which is reflected by 13 nominations to Academy Awards. While the first part set the plot of the film, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers expands the characters and tells more about the fellowship. Though this part is more intense with a love story also thrown in, it also has more gore and violence than the first part. The plot of the film has truly no beginning and also the end. The middle part of the trilogy serves to advance the march of the fellowship of the Ring towards the two towers. Orthanic tower is ruled by Saruman. While Frodo is marching along with his friend Sam, the other group consisting of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli try to save the third group of two hobbits who have been captured, Pippin and Merry. Audience also sees a duel between Gandalf and Balrog which concludes with Gandolf emerging victorious and reuniting with Aragorn’s party.
Meanwhile Frodo, who is the Ringbearer is pulled deeper as the Ring exercises more control over his mind. He continues his journey along with Sam while forging an alliance with Gollum who guides them in their mission. What is amusing is to see Gollum fighting with himself and sometimes abusing himself, while at other times consoling himself. The film, though having no ending has to be seen to string together the first and the final part of the trilogy, which is The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The focus of the second part is not on Frodo, and most of the screen is hogged by Aragorn’s group.
