Plot Summary:

The cocktail of comedy and romance is a sure shot formula at box office these days and we have an overdose of such films. But Love and Other Drugs is one film that is refreshingly different as the subject has been treated in a new manner by the director Edward Zwick. Edward is also the writer of the film along with Charles Randolph. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway and Judy Greer. Although in the genre of comedy, the film has been given an R rating because of sex, nudity and some drug material.

Jamie Randall (Jake) is a handsome young man who is an electronics firm salesman who impresses girls during his visits and flirts with them. He is fired from his job when found having sex with his boss’s girlfriend, he joins a pharmaceutical firm selling standard products and he has to visit and convince doctors to prescribe his firm’s medicines. During one of his sales visit, Jamie meets Maggie Murdoch (Anne Hathaway) who has been diagnosed as an early case of Parkinson’s disease. They are attracted to each other and have sex on a very casual level. Both do not want to engage in a serious relationship, but slowly, Jamie starts to develop strong feelings for Maggie who tries to dissuade him as she is aware of her future sickness.

Maggie looks beyond Jamie’s physical attractiveness and makes him realize his potential too. When his company, Pfizer introduces Viagra, Jamie is suddenly in demand because of his selling abilities. He is invited into the big league by his boss with a promotion, but Jamie has realized that his priorities are for Anne, and he decides to give up promotion to be able to look after and care for his first love. Love and Other Drugs proves that love is indeed the most intoxicating of all drugs.
