Plot Summary:

For those of you who are taking a global view of this movie, it is very tempting to be cynical. After all, this is cross-promotion at its most obvious. What can be more marketable than one of Disney’s most famous theme park rides? The name of the movie itself bears instant recognition. All that is needed to make a commercially successful movie is a just story and actors to complete this charade. However there are a couple of reasons why we should cut the movie some slack. First it doesn’t make what cynics think actually other than it makes for good reading. Second the movie is really quite a fun and entertaining piece of work.

In fact, download Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl movie and you will find that it is not only good but great. Nowadays swashbuckling tales are hardly ever made considering the spectacular disaster of Cutthroat Island starring Geena Davis. Therefore it is pleasantly surprising that Pirates is very competently done. Furthermore, the movie is enjoyable because it does not bear any pressure of making a stoic looking movie to please the movie studios. In terms of genre, you can hardly call it an adventure movie because it has some many comedic scenes in it, nor call it be labelled a comedy for all the adventure and action bits. So it is an adventure comedy, a throwback to the days where Errol Flynn ruled the genre.
The only issue about the movie is the running time. At about 300 minutes it is a tad too long and can be a little slow and meandering at certain parts of the show. The repetitive nature of the battles especially with the undead becomes too similar after the first couple of skirmishes.

The heart of the movie belongs to Captain Jack Sparrow played brilliant by Johnny Depp. Sparrow is a pirate famous for his quick tongue and ineptitude. After rescuing Lady Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) he find himself being arrested for piracy when his true title is found out. He escapes using his usual wit and uncanny sense of timing but not before a duel with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) a blacksmith who has the eye for Elizabeth. In the midst of all this, Elizabeth is kidnapped by Barbossa, the captain of the Black Pearl, a pirate ship. We find out later that Barbossa and his crew are condemned to be zombies until they can overturn a blood sacrifice after relocating all the gold they have stolen from the person who cursed them.

Directed by Gore Verbinski, who also did The RING, Pirates of the Caribbean has plenty of humor to blend in with the horror normally associated with the undead. It is somewhat similar to the movie Army of Darkness by Sam Raimi where there are lots of skeletons and zombies running around. However, the movie survives because of the dialogue and acting skills of Johnny Depp and ably supported by Knightley and Bloom. If you want a thrill of a movie, then go ahead a download Pirates of the Carribean.
