Plot Summary:

Platoon movie, made in 1986 by director Oliver Stone and also written by him, is considered by many to be one of the greatest war movies ever made. Platoon is a perspective of the Vietnam War by a young soldier, Chris Martin. He belongs to a wealthy family, but chooses to help his country in Vietnam War and joins army, dropping out from college. He is sent to 25th infantry division in Vietnam. He faces harsh realities of war as he gets bitten by ants and is blamed for an ambush by the Vietnamese when he was on the watch duty. After some time, Chris feels homesick as there are many more times when he is humiliated by fellow soldiers. He starts taking alcohol and drugs like other soldiers to fight depression.

One of the soldiers, Manny is found missing and the platoon searches him in nearby villages. They find him dead, tied to a tree and the soldiers vent out their ire at innocent villagers killing them. Sergeant Barnes asks village headman about hidden weapons and kills his wife to get him talking. He threatens to even kill his daughter if he doesn’t come up with the place where weapons are hidden. Sergeant Elias punches Barnes for his irresponsible behavior and cools the episode. Chris finds some soldiers raping a Vietnamese girl and protects her.

Later at the camp, men discuss Barnes conduct and some say they will testify against him in court. The platoon is once again attacked by Vietnamese and there are some casualties. Barnes shoots Elias and asks soldiers to evacuate the area as he sensed trouble. As the soldiers leave the area, Chris sees Elias being tracked by the enemy and getting killed. He is filled with despair.

Many more battles with the enemy ensue with Chris getting wounded twice. This is when he is told that he can leave as he has been injured twice. He is made to sit on a helicopter with others who are injured and the copter flies, with Chris muttering ‘The War will always be there the rest of my days’.
