Plot Summary:

Precious is a story about a young girl that is overweight, African-American, and grows up in a poor neighborhood with everything against her. She still manages to have a positive spirit through it all and overcomes her circumstances through writing about her story for the world to see. This autobiographical book then makes it into a film, and it was up for Best Picture too. This film is sad, tragic, and heartbreaking because this girl goes through so many problems, and she is so undeserving of them. She manages to hold her head up high throughout it all even though she has no reason to. The girl is repeatedly raped by her father, infected with the AIDS virus, and ends up running away from home to live with her teacher and her homosexual lover. This story is traumatic, heartbreaking, and tumultuous. Nothing can describe the amount of pain that Precious goes through. She has occasional flights of fancy, but she mainly manages to get through the day with a constant aversion to her surroundings through her head held high in every situation. This drama film is directed by Lee Daniels, and it was written by Geoffrey Fletcher and Sapphire, the girl around whom the film surrounds.
