Plot Summary:
“Psycho” is the classical american black and white thriller, screen adaptation of the novel with the same name by Robert Bloch. The film shows the encounter between Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) and Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins). In Phoenix, Arizona, Marion Crane and her lover Sam Loomis (John Gavin) want to get married, but they have no money. And Marion, as she works as a secretary in estate office, decided to steal a great sum of money and went to California. During her way to California she stopped in a quiet motel for resting. She supposed that place to be safe and far-off the police. But that was her mistake. The owner of the motel was the young man Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), who suffered from the split personality: from time to time his dead mother awakes inside his body. Turned into his mother Norman killed the Marion in her bathroom. That scene is well-known frames, accompanied with weird sounds. At that time in the wake of Marion a private detective Milton Arbogast (Martin Balsam) tries to investigate her disappearance. The last scene depicts Norman Bates shut in a cell. His mind is fully overruled by his mother’s image.
Nowadays, this film is considered to be one of Hitchcock's best movies. And it won critics’ praise all over the world.
