Plot Summary:

The movie Salt tells the story of the Russian female spy Salt trained along with others to infiltrate in the US government to prepare the grounds for the country's destruction.

At CIA headquarters, agent Salt interrogates Orlov, a Russian defector which tells her about an assassination plan to be carried out by an undercover spy called Evelyn Salt. She is detained under the order of agent Peabody. Fearing for her husband Mike, Evelyn tries to call him. In the mean time, Orlov escapes. Agent Salt creates a diversion allowing her to leave. Back at her apartment, she doesn't find Mike, but packs up a few things.

On the day Orlov spoke of, Salt executes the plan up to point where she shoots the Russian President. But instead of a bullet she actually uses spider venom to fake death. Orlov believes she has successfully completed the mission, but still wants to test her. So he has an agent kill her husband which was taken as a prisoner. To avenge his death, Salt kills Orlov as well as the other Russian spies she grew up with in the training camp.

Orlov had a second target for his US destruction plan: to take control over the country's nuclear weapons. Salt sets up a meeting with the agent infiltrated in NATO and they go to the White House. There, he detonates a bomb and shoots people. Salt's former partner – Winter – takes the president to a secure bunker. Believing that Russia is looking to start a war, the American leader gives the codes for nuclear missiles attack. Winter proves to be an undercover Russian spy. He targets Tehran and Mecca for the nuclear attack. Salt fights him, but is arrested by CIA agents. Later on, she strangles Winter.

Agent Peabody allows her to jump off the helicopter leading to prison as Evelyn Salt promises to uncover other Russian moles.
