Plot Summary:
The story takes place in 1967. The main character, Larry Gopnik, is a common person who wants to change something in the world by opening one of the mysteries in the surrounding universe. He works in the university at Midwest and deals with the physics. His wife has just left him, so his personal life appeared to be not very successful. She said she loved another man, Sy Ableman, who, she considered was more manly than her week and helpless husband. Larry cannot deal with everything in his life. He has a brother who doesn’t want to work and lives at his house, son Danny who is a naughty boy and no one can make him behave well, daughter Sarah who wants to change her appearance a little bit and steal money to do it. He watches his ex-wife doing well with her new boyfriend and his brother ruining his own and Larry’s life as well. Suddenly he receives a letter with threats as for his working at the university that is not signed. But these are not all of his troubles. There is a student who wants to bribe him. He blackmails him and threatens his career. Besides, there is a pretty woman seducing him by getting a tan naked. Larry Gopnik feels difficulty in coping with that entire staff. He addresses to three rabbis in order to become steadier and persistent. Will he be able to change his essence?
