Plot Summary:

The novel open with young FBI trainee named as Clarice Starling, asked to carry an errand for a serial killer. Clarice was commanded to present questionnaires to the brilliant forensic psychiatrist and a cannibalistic sociopath, Mr. Hannibal Lecter. Mr. Lecter is serving 9 successive life sentences in Maryland mental institutions for some series of brutal murders.

They also learn that Jack Crawford hunts for serial killer Buffalo Bill. Bill’s modus operandi involve kidnapping over weight women, he starves them for a week and then kills them and skin them before he dumps their bodies near riverbanks.

The nicknames started through the Kansas City Police in the homicide division as joke that Bill likes to skin his humps. And throughout the investigation, Clarice periodically return to Lecter in a search for information and the 2 forms a strange relationship to which they provide cryptic clues in return for some information with regards to their unhappy childhood as orphan. When the sixth victim of Bill was found in Virginia, Clarice assisted Crawford perform some autopsy. Clarice finds moth pupa in the victim’s throat and just Lecter predicted the victim was scalped. And his name is really William Billy Rubin, a person who suffered from the elephant ivory anthrax, which is a knife maker’s disease. He as well gives a precise physical description.

Shortly, after Lecter escapes the killing and the eviscerating his guard, with the use of one of their face masks to fool the paramedics. Starling then continues her search for Bill eventually tracks him down and kills him and then finally rescues Catherine.
