Plot Summary:

The movie, The Social Network belongs to the genre of drama and narrates the story about the founder of Facebook, a giant of a social networking site on the net today. Marc Zuckerberg, who is the youngest billionaire in history, started the revolution called Facebook 7 years ago while studying at Harvard. He was a computer programming student there, and one fall night, he created a website which allowed the users to rate and compare the attractiveness of female students at Harvard. This happened soon after he had a breakup with a fellow student Erica Albright. Marc hacked the databases, downloaded the photos of all the girls and made a webpage he called FaceMash. It allowed the boys to choose between two girl students.

Marc was punished for this act, and was the most hated student on the campus, at least among the girls on the campus. His genius is however noticed by Winklevoss twins and their business partner Divya Narendra, and they invite him to make a website called Harvard Connection.

Soon, this translates into a social networking site exclusively for the students of Harvard, and is called Thefacebook. Winklevoss twins are angry that their idea has been stolen. Marc decides to expand the site to other schools. Soon, Facebook becomes highly popular. There are some twists and turns in the film where Marc loses his girlfriend. There are court scenes where Marc faces charges of breach of trust and stealing of an idea, and in the end emerges victorious. In the last scene, we see Marc sending a friend request to her ex girlfriend Erica, and keeps refreshing the page hoping for a response from her.

The movie is gripping, to say the least, and has some powerful performances from the lead actors. It brilliantly describes the genesis of Facebook, an idea that finally culminates into the largest social networking site in the world.
