Plot Summary:

We are all awestruck with celebrities and their lifestyles, but do we really know them inside out? The film ‘Somewhere’ is an attempt by director Sofia Cappola to let us peep into the life of a successful actor who is intoxicated with name, fame and money and is living a grand life until his 11 year old daughter from a failed marriage comes into his life which is disturbed to a great extent. Sofia herself has written the movie and the film stars Stephen Dorff, Elle Fanning and Chris Pontius.

Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a successful Hollywood actor who is living a lavish life at hotel Château Marmont in LA. He is having everything in excess right from girls, booze and cars. In sum, he is drifting along and does not know in which direction he is moving until Cleo (Elle Fanning) arrives in his life. Johnny is a lot uncomfortable in the beginning as he has to adjust with a kid present in his life all the time but soon become fond of each other and Johnny realizes what he had been missing in his life for a long time. He feels connected with life but as soon as he realizes his mistake, Cleo leaves and goes away from his life making Johnny a sad man again. Marco is terribly upset but learns an important lesson from his 11 year old girl. That life is important and one should have a purpose in life and should not stagnate at any point of time.

The director Cappola has been able to create a wonderful atmosphere with the reunion of the father and the daughter. There is certain spirituality in the film despite a lot of sex and nudity which is what makes the film refreshingly different. Somewhere is a decent drama film that one must watch.
