Plot Summary:

All these questions were brilliant answered in the third part of the first Star Wars trilogy, “The Return of the Jedi” which is also the concluding part of the series. The movie is directed by Richard Marquand and written by both George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan, who were the pair for the first two movies as well.

The entire cast from the first two movies in the trilogy, Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back return for this concluding episode. The gang include Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker),), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia),Harrison Ford (Han Solo) Alec Guinness Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader. The cast continue to do what they have done best in the earlier two movies but probably with a sense of familiarity making it easy for the audience to relate to. There are other non human charades that make a return as well like R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda and Chewbacca.

The movie also introduces the audience to a set of new characters which probably did wonders for the merchandizing department of Lucasfilm Ltd. The most popular and cutest teddy bear ever to grace the big screen are called Ewok, a group of small bear like creature who reside on the moon of Endor, where a major portion of the film is set.

''Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi' has several scenes which can be considered a space travel fantasy equivalent to local culture in most travelogues. You get scenes of Ewok partying and dancing, a musical cantina which resembles you average pub with a erotic dancer throw in. More importantly, it has the classic scene of Princess Leia in a gold bikini which has become one of the most enduring posters and one which has been the fantasy of many a geek at that time. The scene was even mentioned and depicted in the popular sitcom ‘Friends” as one of Ross’s fantasies.

The battle scenes of the movie are very impressive and are more than a match for the classic battle we see in the first Star Wars movie. The whole gamut of space vehicle is seen here with Imperial destroyers and super destroyers battling it out with the Rebel fleet with its A-Wing, B-Wing, Y-Wing and iconic X-Wing fighters.

The only negative part about the movie is probably the entire section of Endor. Although the Ewoks are remarkably cute, there is no need for director to spend so much time dragging the movie through mindless scenes of Ewok partying. It could easily shave off half and hour of the two and a half hour movie if the director had concentrated on the main theme.
