Plot Summary:

The events take place in Nevada in Rejection town. The development of the town depends on mines where silver is received. This town is not a big one. There are not many people living there. Christine is one of them. She has an inn but she is not very successful in comparison with Carson City. Pyong Lien Chang and his family (a wife and a son) came to live there from China. They are the owners of Chang's Market. There are a few more people who live in this little town including Brick Walters, Horse Johnson and some others. They work in mines but a terrible thing happens one day. Because of a hot day some people are killed inside the mine. No one wants to go there – everybody is too scared. People realize that mines give income to their town but this is not a good proof when one is frightened to death. Hiram Gummer whose mine it is starts his investigation with Juan’s help. It appears that eggs caused the death of the men. Each of them contained Graboid. It was 1889 and people did not know what these creatures were. So, they were called “Dirt Dragons”. While they are small they are not harmful. But the problem is in their size. Black Hand Kelly is called for help but he can do nothing when baby-creature grow to unexpected size. Black Hand Kelly’s killed and Hiram has no choice – he decides to escape from the town. But he is the one – the rest of residents didn’t want to leave their homes. Being in Carson City Hiram Gummer gets information that Dirt Dragons moved from the place where mines were to his native town of Rejection. Hiram Gummer gets well prepared to his coming back. He purchases weapons and comes to assist his neighbors fight against worms’ attack.
