Plot Summary:
Garp is an outstanding person. His life is full of adventures and unusual twists. His mother gave him life in 1944. He has been named after his father whom he had never seen. His mother Jenny Fields didn’t want to get married. That is why she made herself pregnant by one of soldiers who were supposed to die. The only thing she knew about him was his name. Later when Garp grew up his mother influenced him greatly. He tried several professions at a time – as a writer and as a wrestler that didn’t require him stick to any rules. He showed himself from the best side in both activities. Seeing success of her son, Jenny tries herself in writing too. She wrote about the most fascinating topic for her – male sexuality and how women react to it. Garp finds himself among millions friends, companions, acquaintances and fans of his mother. In such a way some people come to his life like Roberta Muldoon being transsexual, or a prostitute who changed her life or women who hurt themselves for being listened to. But most of all women, Garp is attracted by Helen who is a daughter of his couch. They have passionate relationships cause by common interests – their love to art and literature. In spite of all activities he takes part in, Garp wishes to involve himself in life diverse from his own.
